An open creation about mobility in an urban context and digital tools that involve communities, citizens, inhabitants, students and companies has been launched by our partners La Chambre Blanche– QUÉBEC / QC et Seconde Nature – AIX-EN-PROVENCE / FR
• Residency introduction
With their cross-residency programme, La Chambre Blanche & Seconde Nature launched a call for the realisation of a digital artwork or device in the framework of Future DiverCities. The residency will focus on Big Data and data visualisation.
The residency is open to two artists (one French / one Quebecian) who will collaborate on an art work or a sound device. The work will focus on mobility, reflecting the flux in the city, the the different modes of transports and flows in public space.
With a strong participative philosophy, the residency must include co-creation space with different audiences (students, professors, researchers, inhabitants, public transport compagnies etc.). These work groups will be composed with the support of La Chambre Blanche, Seconde Nature and co-producers.
• Timeline and welcoming spaces
The first residency will take place from November to December 2017 in Québec (La Chambre Blanche laboratory).
The second residency will take from January to February in Aix-en-Provence and Marseille (Seconde Nature / La Friche de La Belle de Mai).
The two selected artists will participate necessarily to the two residencies and will work together on the same project.
The artistic creation will be presented in 2018 in Aix-en-Provence and Marseille during Chroniques, Digital Arts and Culture Biennale and during La Semaine du Numérique in Québec. Other artistic creation displays will of course be considered.
For all the two residencies, each artist will be remunerated 5800 $CA and will receive a compensation of 3500 $CA for subsistence. Additionally, a production grant of 5800 $CA has been include.
Transport costs, accommodation and technical assistance will also be absorbed.

• Jury and Results
Applications will be studied by the co-producing structures artistic committee.
The results will be announced in early July 2017.

• About La Chambre Blanche
Established in 1978, La Chambre Blanche is the first diffusion centre managed by a collective of artists in Quebec. Dedicated to all the visual arts’ disciplines, it programming has from its inception, focused mainly on performance, installation and alternative practices in photography. La Chambre Blanche Laboratory is build for research, creation, production, documentation, training and dissemination.
La Chambre Blanche’s collective consists of artists and art critics whose coming together colors all of the centre’s activities.
Quebec’s artists-run centre, la chambre blanche has a mission to promote visual and digital arts. Gathering venue for the community interested in its mandate, it brings together artists, makers, hackers and anybody who wishes to get involve in community life as well as in the development of contemporary cultural challenges.
• About Seconde Nature
Seconde Nature is a French not-for profit organisation promoting and supporting artistic creations in digital, electronic and trans-disciplinary arts. Their activities are developed via three interconnected departments :
• Organising concerts, exhibitions, conferences and festivals
• Producing digital artworks with local and international artists
• Guiding public and communities through these digital artforms and the digital devices and services impacting every aspect of our contemporary lives
The association accompanies artists throughout the year in the realization of their projects and also deploys a program of cultural mediation related to the exhibitions produced.
