After a year exploring the DiverCitizen, an individual representative of diverse contemporary culture, we moves into Year Two with the theme ‘Future DiverSocietes’. The first lab event is set by our partner Anti Festival in Kuopio (FI) from the 14/0917 to the 20/09/17 at the occasion of the ANTI Festival International Prize for Live Art.
Future DiverSocieties will explore the conditions of our various societies with a variety of developed technologies today. What kinds of societies exist today? What is the significance of societies as we see them today? What roles are evident? How can we see them as “diverse”? The labwork in 2017 and 2018 will look at how we can create conditions of participation and incubate new forms of creative societies. This takes into account important themes such as the notion of belonging, inclusion vs. exclusion, heterogeneity and complexity vs. homogeneous narratives, and conditions of allowing for multiple truths.
The second Future DiverSocieties lab at ANTI, will focus specifically on this shared ground by pairing performance makers, who although socially engaged with participatory frameworks are yet to fully explore the potentials of digital practices, with artists whose primary space of engagement is digital technology and digital culture, and who may not have previously focused on social engagement and participation. Four artists, two from each field, will work together – using soft and hard collaborative structures – to investigate and explore how each other’s work may be furthered, tested and expanded by engagement with each other. Prior to the Lab the participants will engage with a facilitated online period of dialogue, exchange and preparation where initial points of departure for the collaborative process are discussed and explored.
